In April, Lidl International announced it had acquired a 10 % stake in 1Global, a pioneer of worldwide telecommunications solutions, with the clear intention of becoming a virtual mobile network operator (MVNO) to offer mobile services. In France, Carrefour has followed a similar path. According to L'Informé on 7 September, the retailer filed the brand “Carrefour Mobile” this summer and will rely on Orange under a brand‑licence arrangement. Carrefour plans to sell mobile subscriptions in its 6 500 French stores, while Orange will handle the back‑office operations. This move positions Carrefour among French retailers expanding into mobile services.
